Job Description:
We are seeking a highly skilled Highway Traffic Technician to support the development, implementation, and maintenance of traffic control systems and devices. You will play a critical role in enhancing road safety and improving traffic flow on highways.
Key Responsibilities:
- Traffic Control Design: Assist in planning, designing, and implementing traffic control systems, including signals, signs, and pavement markings.
- Data Collection: Conduct field studies to collect data on traffic patterns, volume, and speed to analyze roadway usage and safety.
- Roadway Assessment: Inspect highways and intersections to evaluate the condition of traffic control devices and identify areas for improvement.
- Maintenance Coordination: Monitor the installation, operation, and maintenance of traffic control devices to ensure compliance with standards.
- Traffic Flow Optimization: Develop recommendations to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion on roadways and highways.
- Safety Compliance: Ensure that all traffic control designs meet safety standards and provincial regulations.
- Reporting: Prepare detailed technical reports, including traffic studies, roadway assessments, and safety evaluations.
- Collaboration: Coordinate with engineers, contractors, and local authorities to ensure proper implementation of traffic management solutions.
- Community Engagement: Address public inquiries and concerns regarding traffic systems and propose appropriate solutions.
Qualifications:
- Education: Post-secondary diploma or certificate in civil engineering technology, traffic engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience in traffic management, roadway design, or highway operations.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in traffic simulation software (e.g., Synchro, VISSIM) and CAD tools.
- Knowledge of traffic engineering principles, transportation planning, and highway design standards.
- Certifications:
- Certification as a Road Safety Professional or equivalent is preferred.
- Valid certifications in traffic control safety, such as WHMIS and First Aid, are required.
- Analytical Abilities: Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret traffic data and recommend actionable solutions.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with stakeholders, clients, and the public.
- Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy in conducting traffic analyses and preparing reports.
