Job Description:

We are seeking a detail-oriented Cost Estimator – Construction to assess the costs associated with construction projects. As part of our dynamic team, you will collaborate with engineers, architects, and project managers to develop cost estimates that ensure projects stay within budget while meeting quality standards and deadlines. Your expertise in cost estimation will be pivotal to the success of our construction projects.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare cost estimates:
    • Analyze project plans, blueprints, and specifications to prepare accurate cost estimates for labor, materials, and equipment.
    • Develop cost summaries and detailed breakdowns for construction projects.
  • Monitor and control budgets:
    • Review and monitor costs during construction to ensure they align with approved budgets.
    • Identify and address cost overruns promptly.
  • Evaluate and update estimates:
    • Revise estimates based on changes in project scope, timelines, or resource availability.
    • Update estimates throughout all project phases to maintain accuracy.
  • Risk analysis:
    • Identify potential risks and cost impacts early in the project lifecycle and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Collaboration with teams:
    • Work with architects, engineers, and project managers to refine estimates based on design specifications and project goals.
    • Liaise with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain quotes and validate costs.
  • Prepare and review documentation:
    • Compile and submit cost reports, tender documents, and budget reviews for stakeholders.
    • Ensure all documentation adheres to regulatory and industry standards.
  • Support procurement activities:
    • Assist in evaluating supplier bids and negotiating pricing to optimize project costs.
    • Ensure materials and subcontractor services align with project budgets and quality standards.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or a related field.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in cost estimation within the construction industry.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in cost estimation software such as ProEst, RSMeans, or similar tools.
    • Strong knowledge of construction costs, materials, and labor requirements.
  • Analytical and organizational skills:
    • Exceptional attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
    • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively to meet tight deadlines.
  • Communication skills:
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with clients, contractors, and team members.
  • Knowledge of codes and standards:
    • Familiarity with Canadian building codes, construction regulations, and industry best practices.
